An important issue that has been constant for years is immigration reform. Millions of undocumented immigrants in the United States have driven heated debates all around the country. The majority of Americans can concur that immigration reform is crucial and needed. The issue on illegal immigration caused a great divide in the Republican and Democratic bases. The Democrats all support an immigration reform that involves a pathway to citizenship for those undocumented living in the United States, while the Republicans oppose it. The gang of eight enabled the Dream Act which allows qualified undocumented immigrants to eventually obtain a permanent residency. An advantage of new legalized workers is that they will finally contribute to paying taxes. This is an advantage to Americans that support the reform because they believe that immigrants are costing them millions of dollars on taxes. To have more legal immigrants than illegal can help save taxpayers money and bring up the economy and our market flow. Obama has also brought in the Guest Worker Program which allows foreigners to work temporarily then leave after the contract is due. The immigration reform will definitely have it’s consequences. There will always be good arguments on either side of the issue for policy change. Whatever the outcome, it will affect you depending on who you are and how things will change for you. Supporting this bill can show an amazing opportunity for our nation. Democrats and Republicans continue to disagree with the cause and solution to the issue but need to take legislative action before it gets worse.
