In today’s times, students do not know what it’s like to be stress free. They are constantly thinking of their grades; all that matters is the number. Education now is so focused on the numbers and students are “learning” ample amounts, but is the information being retained? The statistics claim that kids are learning, but are they really? Do kids need to know calculus or do they need to know how to write a persuasive essay? In the adult world, it is true that one would need to know basic math or how to write an email, but placing so much stress on these asinine things that no one uses on a daily basis, is just pointless. Mental health is pushed under the rug, with parents and teachers saying, “You don’t have any reason to be stressed,” or “It’s all in your head.” When there are students who would rather be dead than go to school, it is truly a problem. Students are honest; they are not as lazy and unmotivated as parents and teachers may want to believe. Some of the most hard-working individuals are students, working hard in school to make a better life for themselves in the future. Good education would ensure that, no matter what the student is good at. Good education would focus on what the student is interested in and what the student is skilled in. Good education looks like students who are eager to go to school, not students who are dreading it because of the stress they are under. Good education sounds like students who are truly engaged in their studies and it does not sound like students saying over and over, “I hate school.” One way to ensure this is to pay attention to the students. Listen to their interests and pay attention to what they are good at. Teach them what they love because they will not learn if they are not willing
