Population trends are an important aspect in planning, financing, and the delivery of healthcare because they are items that can determine what types of facilities are needed or if a facility is going to make a profit. There are several trends that one would want to look at when determining opening a new facility, adding an addition to a current facility, and the location of where the facility would be most beneficial. Those trends would be population trends, disease and illness trends, fertility trends, morbidity trends, and mortality trends. Along with these statistics, one would want to look at demographic trends, social trends, and economic trends. First, a study should be done one the need of a facility, the demand of a facility and the utilization. The difference in the demand and utilization is an important factor, in the aspect, because demand does not necessarily mean that people are going to seek medical attention for their healthcare problems (Torrens & Williams, 2008). …show more content…
This study can be done by looking into the most recent statistics. This type of information can tell you approximately how many people are living in the area, the age ranges, the sex, the race, and the rate of birth and death. Another trend would be fertility trends, which will allow you to compare that information to population trends. The most average age in 2003 to have a child was 25-29 (Torrens & Williams, 2008, pp 48). By comparing this data, if would make sense that if you have a large amount of this age range, you could assume, that the fertility rate is fairly high. You would need to see if you could locate studies that further went into fertility issues that may have a negative impact on this
