Portuguese voyages to the West had a lasting impact on the areas they conquered and their homeland’s treasury. Starting in the late 15th century, Portuguese explorers were an excellent navigator due to their advanced ship technology allowing them to travel to new lands fast and surely. They are famous for arriving at South America, Africa, and India. For each the Portuguese conquered, the natives of that land either become enslaved or subordinate to the Portuguese government. In South America, Portugal controlled Brazil. They found resources there and forced the Natives to work for them until later they brought African slaves to also work on Brazilian plantations.
