Poverty affects people in many ways. People focus or look at how people dress or wear. They also look at where people live and in what type of environment or community they live in. Some people think they are poor because of the way they act. The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, she has taught me that a person’s “identity” can be shaped by poverty.
Sandra describes her house in good detail that it tells she lives in a poor community and not a good house. The way the house is being described is a metaphor for living in poverty.
