Purpose of the policy

The purpose of this policy, is to provide every NTC police officer/support staff with the proper steps and procedures that you as an officer/support staff shall follow when responding/aiding with a domestic abuse call.

Policy Definition

Under statute 968.075, domestic abuse means any of the following engaged in by an adult person against his or her spouse or former spouse, against an adult with whom the person resides or formerly resided or against an adult with whom the person has a child in common:

-Intentional infliction of pain, injury or illness against a party.

-Intentional impairment of physical condition against a party.

-Physical act that may cause the other person reasonably to fear imminent against a party.

- “Party" means a person involved in a domestic abuse incident.

-”Predominant aggressor" means the most significant, but not necessarily the first, aggressor in a domestic abuse incident.

-”Adult person” means any party of the age of 17 or older.

-”72-hours no contact order” means a restraining order you as an officer shall try to make a party of domestic abuse invoke. Once a party invokes this right, the predominant aggressor is not allowed near the party for 72 hours even if the party gives the
