Second thoughts on Proposition 64?

Should marijuana be legalized? It’s obvious that marijuana is a threat to our society physically and morally. Proposition 64 is determined to legalize marijuana recreationally worldwide. Many states like Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska have already legalized marijuana. The question is whether marijuana should be legal in all states. Personally Proposition 64 should not be passed because marijuana can affect the mindset of a human being in a bad way, children will most likely be prone to using it, and marijuana can endanger public safety.

People agree with Proposition 64 because they believe marijuana has medical benefits. According to a Discovery Health Article they quoted, “marijuana has been extremely successful in relieving nausea, which is extremely good news for cancer patients suffering from nausea as a side effect of chemotherapy. Furthermore, it helps relax muscle tension and spasms and chronic pain.” But marijuana can have a terrible effect because, many people misuse marijuana in a bad way and abuse the drug and using it non prescribed.

People want marijuana legalized, but don’t know the consequences of smoking marijuana. Marijuana is only good for medical use only, because there are studies that proved marijuana cure diseases. But having marijuana legalized for all use can lead the younger kids wanting to smoke marijuana, also those who smoke marijuana every day are most likely to abuse it and affect their bodies in a bad way like having a slower respiratory system.
