The Illusion of Dental Pollution: Why Water Fluoridation Should Be Abolished.

Water is one of the most essential components to sustain life. Without water earth would become an inanimate rock floating in space void of life. Water fluoridation is the process of adding the chemicals fluorisic acid, sodium fluoriosiliate, and sodium fluoride to water supplies. Established first in the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan, water fluoridation was researched to be a viable solution to tooth decay. However, recent studies have unearthed many health risks caused by water fluoridation outweighing the benefits and therefore water fluoridation should be abolished. As we use and reuse water, chemicals are added as to make the water safe for humans to drink.

When the water we drink is defiled with fluoride, there is no way to avoid the intake unless one purchases expensive filters that do not take out all of the added fluoride.A large majority of the population is not even informed on the effects, benefits, and dangers of water fluoridation. The defense in this case is that those who are ill informed have the option to use the internet to receive information. Many individuals have not clue what water fluoridation is due to the fact that the process has become a normality yet information on the subject is scarce. With a nationally regulated drug being added to drinking water the consent of a population is mandatory. While information on the subject is scattered throughout the web, many cites are controversial and contradictions are inevitable. A major contradiction found when researching water fluoridation is the benefit. While some governmental cites claim that fluoridation helps prevent tooth decay, others found that the tooth decay in a region has more factors than fluoridation. Economics in a region have been found to be a large contributing factor in tooth decay for the simple reason some people can not afford dental care. Economics is also a major reason in the implementation of substance fluoridation. The thought being if one cannot afford dental care, they can get tooth decay prevention from their water. This factor is disproved by the fact fluoride works best for prevention topically and when ingested over half of the fluoride in water is absorbed and stored in calcified tissues such as bones and teeth. This fluoride storage can become dangerous as it progresses. Over exposure to fluoride can cause bone cancer, dental fluorosis, and even have a harmful effect on brain function along with numerous other
