One of the assignments I chose to include in my portfolio was a test that I recently received back. This test was based on using the Pythagorean Theorem, finding area, perimeter, and volume. For example, there was a problem on the test about finding how many times larger the Jupiter’s diameter was compared to Earth’s diameter. The first step to find how much bigger Jupiter’s volume is compared to Earth’s is to use the formula of a sphere, knowing, that planets are spheres. The formula is 4/3(3.14)r^3. The letter “r” represents radius. The diameter is given. Earth’s diameter is 8,000 miles and Jupiter’s diameter is 88,000 miles. After knowing the formula of a sphere, you plug in “r” into the equation. Before plugging in, you need to know what …show more content…
Then after plugging in the numbers as the radius at a time, you can now evaluate the equation and find its volume for each planet. Since it says how many times, you would have to divide Earth's diameter by Jupiter’s diameter to find how many times Earth's diameter os compared to Jupiter’s diameter. After dividing you would get 1,331 which is how many times bigger Jupiter’s diameter is to Earth’s. I struggled thinking it was wrong then turning out to be right. We had plenty of practice before this test. This was individual work but, we also have a quiz that lets us work with our group, letting us explain and understand each other’s confusions and difficulties. I understood my confusions but later during the test, I had difficulties knowing how to evaluate the problems. I was confident in my work and skills into evaluating the problems. This lesson was probably the most difficult I had understanding. There were so many formulas that I had to help me with the problems but, I missed one, that was the formula to find the area of a triangle which later knew how to find it. I had plenty of time in class and if I didn’t finish it we were to finish during
