Abstract
This paper explain how the Puritans were different from the Pilgrims. The major difference between the both was the Puritans were from the upper class and the Pilgrims were from the middle class. With the Puritans being the upper class, they were describe as being the people who were all about royalty because they were related to the dukes and duchesses. So with the Pilgrims being from the middle class, describe as people all about their jewels, they were bankers and known as house keepers. The Pilgrims wanted to conduct all of their religion on their own with no one around because they wanted that freely atmosphere. The Puritans felt they should have more local control over the Church of England. The Pilgrims were the first people to come to America and settled in Plymouth while the Puritans came later on and was able to settle in Massachusetts. The Puritans leader was John Foxe and the founder of the Pilgrims was Robert Browne.

The religion for Puritans was founded in New England. “They were also known as a group of reformers developed within the Church of England, and they wanted to see their church work more towards Protestant” (Puritans). According to the text, Henry VII “formally initiated the English Reformation” (Dougherty, 93). The average for men to married was 26 years and women were 33 years (The Puritan Family). The Puritans wanted get rid of any “offensive features of Catholicism that remained in religious doctrines and practices of the Church of England” (Dougherty, 93). Most of the Puritans during this saw that the New World presented them with great opportunities in the New World. They could create a model church in America as an example, a "city on a hill" for all to
