To be heroic you have to be brave, selfless, strong, good hearted, helpful to others, never gives up, a leader, and smart. In The Odyssey, Odysseus exhibits some of these qualities. One of the qualities was how smart he was when he dealt with the cyclops and Polyphemus.

First of all, Odysseus showed that he was smart when he thought ahead and told Polyphemus his name was nobody and gave him whine, got him drunk, and Polyphemus passed out. Odysseus and his men drove a spike in Polyphemus’s eye blinding him. When Polyphemus cried out the other cyclopes went to see what was wrong with him and when he said nobody tricked me, nobody hurt me, nobody has ruined me, so the other cyclops believed he really meant nobody and left
