Quinceaneras or called, The Coming of Age Ceremony" , have been a huge celebration of girls transitioning from girls to young women. Being called mini Bodas (Mini Weddings) The tradition of the Quinceanera started around the 1400-1500’s in Mexico by the Aztec Indians, who believed that girls were ready to get married at the age 15. Eventually influenced by Spanish Roman Catholic traditions and even Europe traditions, we now have what we think of today’s Quinceaneras.
Quinceaneras are usually paid by family members that have this sort of pitch in (Like for example the father and mother could pay for the church and food, and the grandparents can pay for the dress, the uncles and aunts can pay for the rest).The ceremony typically starts off with the girl to put on her almost like “wedding gown” that is a full-length ball gown and off to the church in typically a limo they go. Misa de Accion de Gracias (Thanksgiving Mass), where the family of the birthday girl goes to their church and the priest, gives a blessing. After that, there is typically a photo shoot (similar to an American prom) with family and close friends.

The girl then enters her party in a grand gesture and starts her Waltz. This dance includes 14 chambelanes (male escorts),14 damas (female escorts), and the girl being alone. There are 14 sets of dancers to represent 14 years of the birthday girl’s life before. This a very important event to happen because traditionally, girls aren't allowed to dance in public (unless a family event or a school dance) until they reach the age of 15. Then, everyone else is allowed to dance on the dance floor. After the dancing section is over, an entree course in then provided, then more dancing. After that, a section of the night is dedicated to watching videos of the birthday girl growing
