Ralph's Leadership Qualities In Lord Of The Flies

In the novel the Lord of the Flies by William Golding, there is a character named Ralph that shows important leadership skills. Even though he is tested with problematic situations, he overcomes them and develops characteristics of an ideal leader. Even though Ralph is stranded on an island he is very optimistic. Telling the group of boys that they would be rescued soon and inspiring them to go on, this is a good thing to have in someone who leads a group. By him doing this it helped the boys be calm and not panic. He constantly told the boys that the only way they would be rescued is if they kept a fire going as a signal to nearby ships that they needed to be rescued. Even after the boys refused to make the fire on the mountain Ralph tried to convince them it was the only way to get off of it. In this gesture he was showing respect even after the clan had stolen the only way to create fire during the night. This meeting shows that Ralph is a kind leader and still cares about the well-being of others even when they are against him. This same situation also makes Ralph brave. Jack’s clan had the weapons to kill him yet he went with his clan to meet his grim reaper and never cowered. This shows honor to the members of Ralph’s clan because he did not back down and no matter what he still tried to retrieve Piggy’s glasses, he did this so his clan could prosper until a boat arrived to rescue them. Overall Ralph would make a great leader he is calm and collected during violent situations, he has morals on what is right and what is wrong, he shows respect even to those who have wronged him, is honorable by standing his ground, is looked up to by people and well respected, and takes charge so that no one gets out of
