The study and philosophies of Religion have been around and shifted for centuries but one of the greatest movements took place from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance Era. The Renaissance brought a great change of religion within the major role of Christian views from the Middle Ages which became modern for the Renaissance. Social tension, chaos and religious conflicts of the Middle Ages eventually opened an avenue to the idea or belief that human existence and purpose had the “…worth and dignity and a free will that enabled them to use God given capabilities to transform the world” (Lamm p.9). Following the Christianity movement came forth the rise of humanism, which is the belief of the worth and dignity within an individual. As seen in many other disciplines, the story told in Genesis and human existence is significant in the Christian Religion and were incorporated in the works of many Renaissance philosophers and artists. Humanists, Pico Mirandola, Lorenzo Ghiberti and Michelangelo all portrayed religion and merged the story of creation through Literature and Art. …show more content…
The creation story in Genesis became integrated in Pico’s work for humanity to acquire to become Godly. On one hand the biblical version states “…now we will make human beings; they will be like us and resemble us….so God created human beings, making them to be like himself” (Gen. 1.26-7). On the other hand, Pico stated “Let a holy ambition invade the mind...that we may not be content with mean things but may aspire to the highest things” (Matthews p.3). The similarity between the Biblical version and Pico’s version of Genesis’ creation both publicized that humanity should include the freedom to live how one desire in the act of becoming like God, which is seen furthermore in the art works of Ghiberti and
