Repeat Offenders: A Case Study

This study’s purpose is to report rates of repeat offending by age and examine whether risk factors for violent recidivism are stable across age groups. Potential participants included males, aged 18 or older when released from prison. Sexual offenses were defined in accordance with the sixth chapter of the Swedish penal code. Sexual offenses included rape, sexual coercion, child molestation, and other non-penetrative offenses, but excluded internet pornography or prostitution. The sample included 551 prisoners. Forty-two percent of the prisoners were convicted of rape or sexual coercion, forty-six percent were convicted of child molestation, and twelve percent were convicted of other non-penetrative offenses.
