•How consistent is the theory with social work values and ethics?

1. Ecosystem perspectives are consistent with social work values and ethics and accordingly serve as the organizing framework for a number of human behavior textbooks (Van Wormer, 2011, p.39). Van Wormer’s (2011) mentioned that the social justice aspect has been lacking, especially in the formulation and practice of classis family system therapy, family therapy has advanced with the times to be a viable treatment modality. (p. 39) Van Wormer (2011) believe that the ecosystem model is moving in new directions as well; the person-in-environment concept is being expanded to include ecofeminism principles and to call for social change. (p.39) Van Wormer (2011) outlined four dimensions of sustainability that must be attained to ensure the continuation of all life on the planet: human survival, biodiversity, equity, and life quality. These sustainable values, are at the root of all major religions and found in our code of ethics. (p.39) Van Wormer (2011) believes the ecosystems theory advocates social justice and looks toward a match between human needs and available resources. Person and environmental aspects of clients’ lives are addressed simultaneously. (p.39)
