Because being a Residential Assistant is a job, the first role of someone in ResLife is to make sure that policies are followed for the protection of both the university and all residents, however, there is so much more included in this position. In addition to putting up poster boards and putting up posters, it means communicating clearly and being a role model the standards of not only your floor, but also your building. Being an RA means helping your residents to adjust to the realities of college, to walk alongside them and be willing to mentor them if necessary, but if nothing else someone they feel comfortable confiding in.
