Righteous Revolutionary War Heroes

Heroes, leaders, patriots are the types of brave people that won the Revolutionary War. The war was not won by one man, many brave men and women died for what they believed in. The Revolutionary War was fought between the British and the colonists from 1775 and 1783. Some of the people that helped win the war for the Colonists were Deborah Sampson, Thomas Jefferson and Nathaniel Greene. These amazing heroes and leaders paved the road to freedom and Democracy.

Nathaniel Greene led the British through a long and tiring trek through the Virginia wilderness weakening the British (Founding fathers). He showed he was a smart leader when he ordered supplies at the other side of the river so when he crossed it he had time to rest his troops while the British had to cross the river without supplies tiring them further (Founding Fathers). He then found a good spot to fight the British at a rural courthouse in Guilford. He used Morgan’s tactics of 2 shots and out. A militia man would fire and then reload and fire again and then go to the back of the line. Greene then set up his Continental Fighters to fire at the militia if they refused to fire. (History) He held the British for 2 hours, the battle raged back and forth ending in a mass melee. The British General even started to fire into the melee killing both British and Colonists (National Park Service). Nathanial Greene eventually ordered a tactical retreat, giving the British a victory, but at a high cost. The British lost 500 men of their 1,900 army. While the Colonists only lost 200 men of their 4,000 army (History). Nathaniel Greene may not of won the day, but he used his superior tactics and fighting strategies to hold the British for hours while giving his men enough spirit to continue
