Throughout “Best Buds” the theme of loyalty is presented. Through Aristotle’s appeals of logos, the appeal of reason is conferred. The appeal of reason is for the viewer to gain a sense of loyalty to Budweiser, as the dog had for the horse and his owner. Pathos, Aristotle’s appeal to emotion occurs as the viewer builds an emotional attachment to the dog. Along with emotional attachment, pathos raises the value of loyalty, one of the main themes bestowed. The third appeal to ethics is known as ethos, which is less recognizable, as in “Best Bud” Budweiser does a good job of promoting their product. Overall, analyzing the rhetorical situation can help provide information that aids strategic, structural, and stylistic decisions about the advertisement.
