The Gettysburg Address is a speech delivered on November 19, 1863, during the Civil War. The speech took place at the Soldier’s National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Lincoln was not the featured speaker at the event - the featured speaker was no other than Edward Everett. While Everett spoke for 2 hours, Lincoln spoke for no longer than 2 minutes with his speech being a total of 272 words and contained 10 sentences. In Lincoln's speech, he looked at the overall picture. Instead of making the speech about any one specific battle, he made it about the importance of self-governments.
