The Story of Richard Ramirez
Ricardo Leyva Muños Ramirez, also known as Richard Ramirez, was one of the most infamous killers in all of history. Ramirez has 14 confirmed murder victims. He carried out violence using a multitude of weaponry including handguns, tire irons, knives, hammers, and even a machete. In this piece, I am going to discuss one of his most gruesome crimes; what happened, the evidence provided to prove his guilt, and finally what his motives were to commit this crime.
Ramirez stalked through the Khovananth family’s home garden in Sun Valley, Idaho at approximately 4:15 A.M. on July 20TH. , 1985. He entered their house and fatally shot Chainarong Khovananth, by shooting the sleeping man in the head with a .25 caliber handgun, killing him instantly. He then tied up his wife Somkid and his eight- year old son. After tying the wife up, he repeatedly raped her. As a child, Ramirez sustained two serious head injuries. When he was two years old a dresser fell on top of him requiring 30 stitches to close his wounds. Also when he was five years old he was knocked unconscious by a swing at a park, and after that he experienced frequent epileptic seizures that lasted into his early teens. As a 12-year-old he was strongly influenced by his older cousin, Miguel Ramirez, a U.S. Army veteran who often talked about his gruesome experiences during the Vietnam War. He showed pictures of his victims, including many Vietnamese women he had raped. Ramirez bonded with Mike over marijuana and his gory war stories.
