The starred video “Rodney King” posted on Youtube, revealed many key components for myself in order to answer the following questions. In the video it was claimed LAPD used excessive force against King due to suspicion of him being under the influence and resisting. Kings counterargument against this claim was that, “They never let up.” The Eyewitnesses also seemed to have different claims as to what really happen in the attack. Personally, In the video it looks like King is shielding himself from being jumped, more than attacking the officers. The situation has many different stories, which makes it seem confusing as to what really occurred initially, to be able to concur a conclusion, at first view.

I do not believe the Officers reactions to the situation was appropriate due to the sole fact the civilian did not impose a serious threat, and the commentary remarks made by the LAPD Officers after the incident. Some of the remarks used by the Officers were unprofessional,racist, and lacking in compassion. Officers make an Oath to protect civilians and deter crime, but the actions displayed by them were against what they have stood for. I have great support for Law Enforcement Officers and believe they are humans and make mistakes. Yet, in this video from what I could see, they did not use the proper training and poorly handled their discretion.
