The Grapes of Wrath was written by John Steinbeck in 1939. Although it is a fictional story about the Joad family, Steinbeck incorporates many of his own opinions about the present treatment of migrant workers. His novel details, very proficiently, the situation from the side of the migrant workers. Throughout the Great Depression in the 1930s, many of the migrant workers wrote Eleanor Roosevelt about their struggles. On man wrote: “I have Not got any work are No where to put My thing”. This portrayal of one man’s struggles is similar to those of the Joad family in Steinbeck’s novel. Because of this, it can be said that The Grapes of Wrath is an accurate representation of what happened to the migrant workers. In the 1939 edition of Fortune
