James Hurst wrote "The Scarlet Ibis" to show some images. He uses the color red as an example, for instance you shouldn't let your pride get the best of you or sometimes you will end up with guilt. Hurst symbolizes something red by bringing it back from time to time. One way he shows the color of red, is when the bird Scarlet Ibis falls from the top of the tree and hits the ground. He says it was like a "broken vase full of red flowers." I believe it symbolizes Doodle in the story because Doodle wasn't supposed to live after he was born and he was also broken and couldn't do some tasks like other kids his age. Doodle had skinny legs like the bird and when Doodle was found by the bush he was in the same position almost as the bird when
