Contrary to many ideas about our court system, we have not always been the most honest and unbiased people. During the early nineteen hundreds many people especially in the south were often convicted of crimes for no other reason than their skin color. One prime example of this is the case of the Scottsboro Boys and how they were accused of rape and had to go to court numerous times, almost everytime ending in the death sentence. The evidence clearly points towards the innocence of the Scottsboro boys, evidence such as unclear stories from the girls, lack of bruises and marks indicating assault as well as a previous history of prostitution from both of the girls. This evidence as helps to prove that the Scottsboro boys were innocent and wrongly accused and convicted.
Obviously, the Scottsboro boys did in fact get into a brawl and hobo on a train, however, they did not rape the two girls and should not be convicted as there is no physical evidence pointing towards the rape of the two girls. The girls were both examined by a doctor after the events and nothing but minor bruising was there which would not be the case if it were rape. Both girls were on the train looking for jobs and could pick up some extra work. Added to this prostitution was changed to have a capital punishment after both girls were convicted. Knowing this both girls could have simply lied to save themselves and use the benefit of race as they were both white and the Scottsboro Boys were all black. It was an easy way to avoid the conviction and an easy way to get out of it. In conclusion, both girls seem to have a very clear motive for lying about what really happened on the train, this combined with other evidence only helps to build the case for the Scottsboro Boys and tear down the girls
