The Secret Life of Bees is all about a young girl, Lily, running away from her home with her abusive, unloving father. Lily runs off to a place, wanting to learn more about her mother, who she killed. After coming across the Boatwright sisters pink house with her housekeeper, Rosaleen, she finally feels loved. The sisters also knew Lily’s mom which I believe gives Lily closure. The themes throughout the book and movie are mainly the same, but I think they focus on the themes in different ways. I think the similarities and differences throughout the two show what each author/director wanted to highlight more on. For example, the movie mainly wanted to keep focused on one theme or event, because it had to be constructed in such a short time frame. On the other hand, the book gave us a lot of information and themes to focus on, since it didn't really have to stay in some type of time limit. After contrasting the movie and the book, you can see two different insights on the story. For example, the book only kept focus on Lily’s point of view, yet the movie would often show scenes of TRay that we didn’t get to see in the book. Personally, I definitely prefer the book over the movie. I think the book gives us a lot more information, and it has so many well written scenes that we were not able to see through a movie screen. I also love the way the book describes the characters. We definitely get to understand more of the characters personalities through the book. If I could change one thing about the book, I would make it so it would have less “fluff”. I feel as though the book had some unneeded/wanted information that was not very important to the story line. I just don't think some of the story was really connected to the theme or understanding of the book, if anything the extra words made it harder to
