During the nineteenth century, the American society began to split. People became more and more contradictory to their views concerning the practice of slavery and other affairs (economic, political, and social). By the 1850’s, the constitution which was originally a source of unity, became the origin for sectional discord and tension, and ultimately provided a breakdown for the union it had created. This created a thriving separation between the North and the South.
