One more cause for the Red Scare is the many acts and legislation that were passed. Espionage Act of 1917 was one of the many, it covered much lesser disloyal activity. It also made it possible that one could be fined for ten thousand dollars and up to twenty years in jail for insubordination, disloyalty, mutiny, and refusal of duty in the American Navy. Another act is the Sedition Act of 1918. This act prohibited anyone to write, print, or publish any disloyal, profane, scurrilous, or abusive language about the form of government of the United States and Congress.
