Scope of the study:
The goal of this study is to identify the challenging driving conditions encountered by senior drivers, to investigate feasible means that could assist senior driver’s driving, and to enhance the safety of senior drivers driving by promoting a senior-friendly transportation system in the state of Rhode Island.
Research Questions:
• What are the challenging driving conditions encountered by senior drivers?
• What is the level of severity in the identified conditions?
• What are the difficulties and needs in senior driver’s driving especially in the identified conditions?
• What are the feasible means that could assist senior drivers driving while they are facing the identified conditions?

• Develop a Web-based Senior Driving Assessment System based on challenging traffic conditions and the feasible means.
• Enhance the safety of senior drivers driving by promoting an elder-friendly transportation system.
Research Plan and Timeline:
• Review literature and existing studies (1 months)
• Conduct questionnaire and interview to identify challenging traffic conditions (2 months)
• Identify the feasible means that could assist senior driver’s driving and transportation alternative for those who no longer drive (1 months)
• Verify the identified the feasible means that could assist senior driver’s driving and the transportation alternative by conducting a questionnaire (2 months)
• Develop a Web-based Driving Assessment System based on the identified conditions and the feasible means (4 months)
• Give a recommendation to enhance the senior drivers’ driving safety by promoting a senior-friendly transportation system (2 months)
• Prepare a final report (2 months)
Results and Payoff:
This study is unique and important to the nation is facing increasing percentage of senior population and the issue is even more serious in Rhode Island. The proposed study could lead
