I am reading the short story, “Sheila Mant” by W.D. Wetherell. In this story there is a fourteen-year-old who spends his summers on a river, and “falls in love” with his next door neighbor, Sheila Mant. Throughout the summer, the boy tries and tries to impress Sheila and gather the courage to ask Sheila out. Once the protagonist finally gains the courage to ask out Sheila, they go on a date and the boy encounters problems when boating down to the river to the long awaited date. On the boat ride, Sheila states that she strongly dislikes fishing, which also happens to be the boy’s passion.
