This is not a debate on immigration, it is a debate on whether or not to give undocumented immigrants already here a path to citizenship. We have in this country, 11 million undocumented immigrants. Immigrant families are made up of varying demographics. They are comprised of young children brought into this county by their parents; they are mothers and fathers whom have come in with their spouses who are here legally. You can have one legal parent and one illegal parent. All siblings may be US born citizens or you may have older illegal status siblings while the younger children are US born. It is unfair to break families apart based on where they were born. They are our neighborhoods, co-workers, and friends. They have names, lives, and stories. They are not just a number. They have been here, on average, 13.5 – 15 years. They have built lives here. This is their home. They deserve a clear path to citizenship.
Illegal immigrant should be allowed a path to citizenship because they are vital to our country. They are here working, paying taxes, and are contributing to our economic system. They do jobs for us that American born citizens do not want to do. They take menial jobs here in the US,

This demographic is helping to pay social security for our aging population. In 1993 12.6 % of Americans were 65 years or older. Today that number is 14.8 % and by 2050 that number is expected to rise to over 22%. As we grow older, more people vacate the work force and rely on Social security for their income. Americans are having fewer and fewer children to help cover the burden this aging population will place on the social security system. Immigrants help ease this burden as they pay into the system, but never take benefits from it. There will be a detrimental effect to our Social Security system if we do not provide a clear path to allow immigrants to stay in the
