Should pennies be preserved? Some people may believe that pennies should not be preserved others believe they should. Pennies should not be preserved because people pay more for a penny than what it is actually worth. There are so many reasons why pennies should not be preserved. Pennies should not be preserved because they are not really used these days. According to ‘Penny Anti’ (source 1) it states, “Production is up in part because of hoarding, and in part because more and more people are throwing them in jars or drawers and never taking them out again.” This means that now a days pennies are not really worth a lot so people really can not buy anything with it. Also in ‘The Cost of a Penny’ (source 3) it states, “For example, something currently worth 99 cents may well drop to 95 cents instead of rising to a dollar to avoid the higher price threshold and attract more customers. Market forces should protect prices—and rounding would make it considerably easier to count change.” This …show more content…
For example as stated in ‘The Many Faces of The Penny (source 2), “In truth, it is more than a coin- it’s a piece of american culture.” This means that people don’t want to get rid of pennies because without pennies there going to forget about the culture in America. Another reason why people think pennies should be preserved is because they fear that charities won’t get as much money. As stated in ‘Save the Penny- Save the Day!” (source 4) it states, “Bottom line: if the United States eliminates the penny, charities will suffer because people will pay more at the store and feel they have less to give those in need.” This means that they think stores will raise the prices more and have less to give to charities. People think the world is not gonna be a better place if we get rid of the pennies but in reality there is way worse stuff going on in the world than getting rid of
