Have you ever wondered what the similarities between the Northern, Middle, and Southern colonies were or even how they contrast in different ways? Well, if you have today I will give you that answer. I will be telling what each of these colonies were and what similarities and differences they had. To start off I would like to tell you about the Northern colony. The Northern colony was also known as the New England colony and mostly Englishmen settled here. As more settlers came into the Northern colony economics, religion, and politics grew slowly. The Northern colony linked different American colonies to parts of the world for trade. Also the Northern colony traded sugar and molasses. The molasses was made into rum. Lastly in the Northern colony’s farmers practiced subsistence farming to grow and produce enough for the families needs. Equally important is the Middle colony. In the Middle colony most of the settlers were German, Dutch, Swedish, and more English settlers live in this colony. The Middle colony gave diversity, like religion and culture. In the Southern colony most of the settlers were Scotch-Irish but there were some Indians that lived here as well. The Southern colony controlled economic and political life in this region. Also the Southern colony had formal education for large landowners and professionals such as doctors or lawyers. The Southern colony also had rich soil and a warm climate. Settlers in the Southern colony grew tobacco, indigo, rice, and other dye textiles. They also planted corn, wheat, potatoes, beans, and turnips. Another thing the Southern colony had was plantations that used indentured servants. These were people who agreed to work without pay to go to America. Later these indentured servants switched into African slaves. The Southern states also hired overseers to keep the slaves working
