Why is it that so many people started saying “Turn Up,” or when people started wearing uggs and sagging their pants? These are a couple examples of how individuals choose to talk and dress because of how other people around also talk and dress. Many individuals have searched to find out on how human behavioral norms are set in groups and how they can change over time. Many psychologists study how social norms, society’s specific rules of right and wrong behavior, shape not just our behavior but also our attitudes. Social norms impact many things starting from what music we listen to or even what kind of policies we choose to support. Is there always a someone that chooses to set and change the norms of a group? Many people think that even if the latest fashion trend, electronics or slang words that are used they would eventually spread within different groups. People who do not go alone with the trend to what others follow tend to isolate themselves from the rest of the group. People who form themselves outside of groups are considered as Out-groups. Even though some people may be isolated, some groups may try to involve them in with their group because having new ideas is another good way for members of the group to bond.
