Teenagers may seem worse now than they actually are, the graphs below will display categories of cannabis, alcohol use, steroid, teenage pregnancy and many more and how the behaviors of teenage have changed or developed. The overall statistics show that there has been a great amount of decrease in these behavioral activities and teenagers have become a lot more educated.

This graph shows the trend in alcohol use amongst grades 7, 9 and 11 from 1977-2013. From 1977-1979 it was at its highest peak, this is most likely due to alcohol becoming fairly new and at this time became more affordable. As well, no one knew the dangers it may cause such as liver poisoning so teenagers began to drinking as it was consider “cool” at this time. From that time period on alcohol usage began to decrease due to it becoming harder and harder for teenagers to get their hands on and as well during this time period legal drinking ages were put in place for people all around the world, this made it a lot harder to purchase and as well teenagers ran the risk of being caught and possibly arrested. I think another reason for this decrease is because parents learned the effects of alcohol and how it could even be as severe to cause brain damage so they began to become stricter and watch their kids more closely. All this being said alcohol usage did increase again this is because a lot of teenagers began to party more and more and with older siblings or older friends had a lot more access to it, as well as during this time period it was considered “cool” to go out and drink and break the rules. Another reason it increased was because this was after the baby boom when all the babies being born were becoming teenagers making the population of teenagers bigger those years than any others so it may look like the percentage increased but it may just be due to the amount of teenagers which increased. The most explainable reason for the alcohol rate going down all together is that teenagers are a lot more educated now than they were before and is now involved in the curriculum of school.

Sexual intercourse rates have dropped dramatically; there could be many reasons for this. One of the reasons may be that teenagers now take a sex ed class in high school, this class shows the risks of pregnancy and sit’s from sexual intercourse. This is the most common reason as to why the numbers have dropped because teenagers are a lot more cautious now and do not want to ruin their lives all because of one mistake. The sexual intercourse rate among females used to be dramatically higher than it is now; the reason for this drop may be that when females became pregnant on accident it advertised the higher risks from then on also sexually transmitted infections are very serious and if you were to contract one it could ruin your life such as to get aids. Teenagers have recognized these risks and have decided to take precaution. Also having sex is not considered “cool” anymore many teenagers just simply aren’t ready and since people are a lot less judgmental now in days they decide to wait for when their ready.

Cigarettes used to be extrememly popular and be able to smoke them whereever you please, as well they were a lot more easy to get your hands on and almost anyone was excpected to smoke in their life. However, the decrease as shown on the graph can be easily explained due to cigarette smoking has become a lot more restricted. For instance you used to be able to smoke anywhere and now there
