The constant theme of this discussion was heavy involvement from government that transform the Southwest. Before World War I, the Southwest was considered a third world from the rest of the eastern United States. The Southwest contain less populated areas, but that all transformed when the United States joined World War I and the government invested in many projects in the Southwest. I do agree with some of the students stating that the government brought many projects to the Southwest, that brought many jobs and help urbanize the Southwest. Especially during World War II, military projects rose dramatically in the Southwest due to a Japan attack was imminent. Projects such as nuclear testing in New Mexico, Air Force fields in Arizona, U.S. Navy site in California brought many people to acquire this jobs and transform town into municipal cities. After doing research in this topic, one of my favorites, I was surprise of how much more information there is in the transformation of the Southwest.
