Stereotypes can harm people physically. Wes Moore the author of The Other Wes Moore is about these two boys living in the same area with the same name and a somewhat similar background. In this book it shows what could have been and how everything happens for a reason. In the book, The Other Wes Moore by Wes Moore, the author explores the idea of stereotypes to develop the theme stereotypes don't define a person, their actions do. Wes Moore shows many examples of stereotyping in this book. There are many situations in this book of discriminating people based on their skin color. Wes the author says, "They questioned my mother about my fathers medical history, then shifted to questions about his mental state" (Moore 13). Wes's dad is really sick and is in the hospital trying to get help but the doctors first question about his medical history which is normal then they ask about his mental health. This is stereotyping because they think he is mentally unstable because he is black and wearing old dirty clothes.When Wes says this he is trying to get a message through saying they were stereotyping his father for being black and not having nice clothes and because of this situation his dad passed away.
