Suicide in America’s Armed forces is an inner crisis that demands heavy amount of attention for all troops foreign and domestic along with each family member. There are various factors associated with psychological disorders on and off the battlefields to include an ineffective transition period that contributors to self-inflicted deaths of service members and veteran. For many decades, various research have been conducted by healthcare and public service professional trying to determine factors for assessment, treatment, and prevent the underline causes and myths surrounding the large number of suicides within our armed forces. The Department of Defense (DoD) has also been on its toes to reverse this trend by bringing forward awareness through quarterly and annual training with the access to the Military Family Life Counselors (MFLC). A grave deal of efforts have been forth implemented by the various officials to prevent suicide and understand the conditions that led to suicide; however, the Department of Defense has remained elusive over the cause of military deaths of its service members. The lack of psychological understanding on the issue has created barriers whereby researchers in the military and the civilian arena find it challenging to develop the correct methods to curb the behavior (Ritchie, 2015). Like sexual assault, suicide is an internal and external battle that seems to be diminishing our force, manpower, and morale. By exploring factual statistics provided by the Department of Defense, research conducted by scholars, and difficulties Soldiers face on and off the battlefield, this paper will make a comparison between the number of troops who commit suicide on and off active service in deployment areas and those who opt to take their lives
