A Long Way Gone by Ishmael Beah is the true story of Ishmael Beah. Ishmael’s story starts when he is a twelve year old boy. He suffers hunger, loss and homelessness.
When he is twelve years old, Beah's village is attacked while he is away rapping with his friends. Both of his parents are killed during this invasion. The war is getting heated and he has no protection from death, and no one to look out for him. Ishmael, his brother, and some of his friends go to every village in the area in search of food and shelter. They are desperate for food, and they find themselves doing unspeakable things, such as stealing food from children.
