In Cold Blood is a suspenseful novel written by Truman Capote and based on a horrific true story. Herbert Clutter and his family were well known in their small town of Holcomb Kansas. Everyone in the town of Holcomb was aware that Herbert Clutter was a pretty wealthy man, however no one begrudged him due to his kindheartedness. Mr. Clutter was a popular farmer and treated his workers very well. The Clutter household consisted of Herbert, Bonnie, Nancy, and Kenyon Clutter. The Clutter’s also had two older daughters that were away at college during this time.
Dick Hickock and Perry Smith were both in prison when they spoke with Floyd Wells. Floyd Wells used to work for Mr. Clutter. He informed Dick and Perry of Mr. Clutter and his wealth. The two men began asking suspicious questions about the Clutter family. Once they were informed of Mr. Clutter’s wealth they were determined to get their hands on the cash.
