The Terri Schiavo case was about Mrs. Schiavo. A 41 years-old woman that had an eating disorder, which caused her heart to arrest by extreme hypokalemia (also caused by her eating disorder). As a result of that, Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy developed and Mrs. Schiavo was then considered to be in the Vegetative state; making her then not able to do the basic daily life skills. Also, Mrs. Schiavo was connected to a feeding tube for more than 15 years. Her husband, Mr. Schiavo, and her parents, were trying to decide whether to continue the treatment or stop it.
Under Florida’s state law, Mr. Schiavo was made her legal guardian since he was her husband and Mrs. Schiavo left no other advanced directives to be followed. After many years of attempting
