What separates a human from an animal is a human's ability to have emotions that keeps them from doing wrong but take away their emotion and all is left is an animal, a savage. With one hand on humanity and the other on the path to savagery, Ralph and the other survivors from Golding’s Lord of the Flies struggle with inner fighting, personal hatred, and the disregarding of basic human emotions. With this Golding proves when clinging to life, it is not the threat of starvation or the jarring environment that forces survivors to act with depravity; it is the other people standing next to them that drives them into depravity. People say that to become a better person you must surround yourself with righteous people but when surrounded with hungry survivors in an unknown place, How will that affect you?
