Suspense In Argo

One of the most notable scenes in the film Argo is a scene near the end of the movie where the diplomats are being lead out of the country by Tony Mendez. The scene is set in a busy airport at the climax of the movie. This scene is very effective in adding suspense and conflict to the movie. At this point in the film the group is very close to escaping from Tehran. The conflict is presented when a guard at the airport decides to detain Tony and the diplomats after reading their passports. They then have to convince the guard that the movie they are working on is real in order to get on the plane and escape. The guard at the airport is probably the most important character in this scene. He keeps the group in holding after becoming suspicious of their motives to leave the country. The dialogue is all diegetic and the audience hears every part of the conversation between the characters. The conversation is a quick back and forth with a lot of jump cuts. I think that scene is one of the most memorable in the entire movie. It looks to create suspense and leave the viewers on the edge of their seat. I think it is extremely successful in doing this, all the small details in the scene add to a truly scary scene. It acts as a sort of climax and turning point for all the characters, the audience is holding their breath as they root for the characters to make an escape.
Overall I thought that this scene was really put together well. All the small details collectively create a scene that is interesting to watch, from the lighting to the rapid fire cuts between shots. This scene is just one of many excellently filmed scenes in a movie full of suspense and intense moments, but this one stands out for being truly
