Below I’ve done a stakeholder analysis on our company Walgreens. There are many stakeholders that can contribute to the success or collapse of our business. The stakeholders’ that I will most specifically be getting into is the investors. The investors provide capital and support for businesses when they are growing or expanding to new areas. They are vital to the success of an expanding company. I will also be discussing employees and customers as important stakeholders for our business.

Analysis of the Situation

Walgreens is one of the largest drugstore companies in the United States with over 8,000 stores nationwide. It has had its doors open for over 115 years and has situated itself perfectly within the drugstore and pharmacy industry.

When they hear the news that our company is expanding to the untapped market of Brazil, they will be elated. Brazil has one of the fastest growing economies in the world. It contains large cities like Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo where Walgreens could put stores that reach out to many people in a very small area. Investors will provide us with the essential capital to make this entire expansion possible. Without their help this idea of international expansion would never be able to even be thought about. However, there is risk involved. Investors will be expecting steady profits from our Brazilian stores. If they cannot perform up to expectations investors will be quick to rescind their investments.

Recommended Action:

Draft a presentation regarding the potential expansion within the economy of Brazil. To expand internationally Walgreens will need a lot of capital from its investors so a solid and well thought out presentation to the investors is very necessary. A one on one meeting with key investors will be necessary for such a big expansion project like this. We need to focus on the fact that we will be able to provide affordable health care products to people that are truly in need.

The sooner that they can find solid candidates for positions, especially manager positions within Brazil, the better. Walgreens needs to reach out to universities and colleges all around Brazil and look for motivated students that want to work in this field. There are many students in Brazil that are extremely educated and could potentially climb the ladder and work in our corporate offices in the United States.
Summary:

In conclusion, there will be many stakeholders when Walgreens expands its business into Brazil. The investors will have the chance to invest in a company that will be expanding into a foreign market that is full of potential. Investors will need to be persuaded to invest more capital to make this expansion possible. Customers will need to be able to trust in Walgreens as they move to this foreign country. Lastly, new employees need to be hired from universities and colleges within Brazil. The best and brightest students will able to make an impact with Walgreens in their local community.
