Symbolism In The Short Story 'Sweat'

So, I found this weeks story to be very interesting. After reading it, I decided I would describe why the concept of symbolism is important to the story and how the story uses symbolism.

If we reflect on this short story (Sweat), one would get the impression that it involves a marriage that is going through some trouble. The story involves a washerwoman names Delia and an unemployed husband named Sykes. I will not go into a summary of the story here as I will assume that we have all read the surprising ending involving Sykes.

An example I found to be a great example for symbolism is the clothing. It came across to me that the clothing seems to represent Delia's hard work. If we look back to the story, we will remember that Sykes stepped on
