Also it backs up the idea of how those who want power and influence will do whatever it takes to get it , even if it means making up lies.
Compare that to today when for example you have candidates for President, before they were running for President you would never hear anything about them, but as soon as people seeing them gaining so much influence they wish they had, they find a reason to ruin that person socially and make themselves look better. We can lose the influence of a lot of great people
