The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein is novel told from the point of view of the family dog, Enzo. Enzo believes that once his life as a dog ends, he will be resurrected as a human. He watches and observes his owners Denny, a small time racecar driver, his wife Eve, and their daughter Zoe. Enzo constantly observes the families’ interactions as they progress through their hardships. Eve is eventually diagnosed with terminal cancer and passes, leaving Denny fighting with her parents in a custody battle over Zoe. Enzo stands with Denny through all this adversity, and eventually it is implied that his dream of becoming human comes through. The Art of Racing in the Rain has qualities that shine through off the pages and should be valued
