It wasn't until President James K. Polk held up and announced a piece of gold that people began believing in the gold located in the American River. In 1849 about 70,000 Americans, and 15,000 European, Latino, and Asians flooded California. By 1848-1852 around 400,000 people had rushed into California. The gold rush is thought as the biggest migration of different people coming together. The gold rush can contribute to California’s great diversity. Also, the great migration contributes to the idea how America is made from hard working, ambitious, and dedicated immigrants. In the end, the gold rush turned California into a prosperous land piece that first many did not find interest in. Specifically, Spain and parts of Europe knew about California
