In “The Cask of Amontillado” by Edgar Allen Poe, Montresor is presented as a sneaky, persuasive, and violent character. Montresor is shown to be sneaky in the story when he is secretly planning on killing Fortunato for insulting him. “The thousand injuries of Fortunato I had borne as I best could; but when he ventures upon insult, I vowed revenge” (Poe 372).
