In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, a creature was created to find out a way to save many people from dying. The creature in this novel was created Victor Frankenstein, and was created from ancient human body parts and also deceased animals. Throughout the novel, the monster is left alone by his creator and feels very lonely when he sees other families enjoying themselves together, such as the DeLacey family.The monster was so afraid to approach other families and other people because he knew that his appearance would not allow him to be equal with the other human beings. First, Victor abandons him, and then the way the monster appears to society already sets him apart from others. The monster rather move himself away from society noticing that no one will accept him, and in exchange he wants a female friend but that didn’t work out for him. “I am an unfortunate and deserted creature; I look around, and I have no relation or friend upon earth. These amiable people to whom I go have never seen me, and know little of me. I am full of fears; for if I fail there, I am an outcast in the world for ever.” (159) Nothing ever went the monster’s way, so the whole time he was alive he regretted every action he did. Although no one seems to like him, he grows stronger and learns how to do things where he no longer needed someone’s help. When Robert got the chance to destroy the creature, the creature decided to explain himself and tell his side of the story. After the creature explained his story, he realized that Robert was the only person who understood him and actually cared to listen to him. “I have no friend, Margaret: when I am glowing with the enthusiasm of success, there will be none to participate my joy; if I am assailed by disappointment, no one will endeavour to sustain me in dejection.” (7) Robert understands what loneliness is like because he went through a stage of loneliness himself we he was on a journey and wouldn’t want anyone to feel the same way he used to.
